With all the feed currently in the paddocks, it’s easy to forget just how horrendous the conditions were just over 12 months ago – at the end of 2019 and the beginning on 2020. For us the summer of 2019/20 was by far the worst drought we’ve endured in the Southern Tablelands of NSW region. Most of our dams were dry and our stored on-farm fodder was long gone – used up some 12 months earlier. While the rest of the country was ablaze, there was nothing to burn in our parched valley.

There is a proverb ‘The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor the man perfected without trials’. We were well honed by the time the drought broke.

Hard times, hard work and resilience are nothing new to farmers in Australia. We are constantly dealing with one of the most variable rainfalls in the world.

What a difference 12 months makes!

The stars have aligned and in this unbelievably abundant season, we are experiencing historically high cattle prices.

Let the good times roll!
